Jim has a wide variety of volunteer experience, ranging from environmental to religious to scouting to community neighborhood groups. These experiences help provide Jim with a vital link to the communities he serves as well as offer real world experience in service and problem solving. Evergreen Knolls Homeowner’s Association, Treasurer/Secretary (1995-date)
Jim has been responsible for the budgeting and financial affairs of his homeowners’ association in the Town of Cortlandt, as well as all insurance and risk management concerns; he assist in formulating policy and programs with respect to the association’s recreational facilities and youth programs; prepares newsletters, mailings and public relations documents, and coordinates communications with the Town of Cortlandt.
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Putnam Valley, NY (1995-date)
Jim serves his congregation as Vice-President, Trustee, Elder, grant writer, technology committee chair, Youth Ministry/VBS Director/Instructor, Atlantic District convention delegate and member of Bishop’s Task Force and Floor Committees on Practical Concerns and on Theological Matters.
Fallsburg Fishing & Boating Club - President, Board of Directors (2007-date)
As chairman of his Sullivan County lake community board of directors, Jim is responsible for conducting monthly meetings, preparing agendas, reviewing budgets, revenues and expenses, coordinating programming, reviewing site plans, architectural renderings and construction proposals for member homeowners, supervising fish and land conservation projects, roads and Class-C high hazard dam infrastructure maintenance (including coordination with consultants), grant writing for FEMA disaster funding, meeting with NYS legislators, executives and staff for dam funding, coordinating and reviewing emergency action plan, running background investigations, meeting with town boards and NYS DEC staff , reviewing and coordinating forestry management plans, and maintaining relationships with shareholders and staff.
Boy Scouts of America, Merit Badge Counselor (2012-date)
Jim advises and supervises boy scouts in the Manitoga District for merit badges in areas of Law, Sustainability, Citizenship in Community, Theater, Weather, Pets, Fishing and Horsemanship
Hudson River Sloop Clearwater
Jim is a member of the grassroots organization founded by Pete Seeger to defend and restore the Hudson River and to help bring about a cleaner, greener, safer world. Jim volunteers at the Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival held most years at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, NY
